Randomly, the mac will freeze, not allowing me to exit out of any programs or start new ones. 'I just purchased a Mac Pro this week and have encountered a freezing issue. It updates the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card firmware on all of the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics cards in the Mac Pro to improve system stability.'
On its 'About ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT Firmware Update' page, Apple posts: 'This update is for Mac Pro computers with one or more ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics cards installed, running Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later with the Leopard Graphics Update. System instabilities should be fixed, according to Apple, that also notes that the update requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 with the latest Leopard graphics update. Apple has now rolled out an update for the Mac Pro ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card.
The apparent cause? ATI-based video cards. Ma(four days ago) saw Apple forums flooded with complaints of graphics freezes. Are you one of the Mac Pro users experiencing a graphical distortion? Well, chances are that if you are, you probably switched to a new graphics card already, but if you haven't Apple would like to let you in on a little something called the Mac Pro ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT update! It seems it was a firmware issue after all.
